As soon as I got my hands on my new Digital SLR camera a few years ago I became immensely interested in taking better photographs, so I joined a local photography class. In this class I was introduced to Project 365 to help improve my photography skills. The premise behind Project 365 was to get us to use our cameras daily. Whether it was to take photos of myself, my family, my house, or what I was cooking that day, I snapped photos of it all. Project 365 was a photographic journal of my daily life for two straight years. And because of doing it, I really learned a lot about my camera, and have wonderful pictures of daily events.
About the same time, I started to digitally scrapbook. I really loved the photography aspect of Project 365, but I didn’t like that I couldn’t document the feelings or events that I was capturing in my photos. When My Digital Studio launched, I ordered it the day it became available and have been an MDS junkie ever since! I applied the same “do it daily” philosophy that I learned in my photography class so I could learn everything there was to learn about My Digital Studio. I believe that you learn by playing with new technology and keeping that technology fresh in your mind.
I suggested to Holly and Andrea that they try a “Project 365” theme on this blog that focused on documenting one’s daily life photos and journaling using MDS. I thought it would be a great challenge for me, and that others would benefit from it too. I was thrilled that the suggestion came to fruition, and that it was altered to Project 52 because realistically that’s about all that I can commit to at the moment. But it is a commitment that I plan on keeping : first, so I can print a wonderful book documenting 2011 for my family, and second so I can challenge myself to create more layouts in MDS so I get to know this software just as well as I know how to use my camera. Just like a camera, there is a learning curve to MDS, and by using it more frequently, playing with it, and figuring out all of the little gadgets and buttons, you can really accomplish some really wonderful layouts. For me, the challenge is to keep practicing and trying new things – and I love a challenge.
